New Heaven & Earth

The new heaven and the new earth are the final destination for believers. It is a Christians ultimate hope for the end of times. Revelation 21:1-2 states, “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea existed no longer. I also saw the Holy City, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared like a bride adorned for her husband.”[1] This passage offers the believer a glimpse into the future. After the tribulation, once Satan is defeated, God will create for us, the ultimate and final resting place. The new Heaven and new earth will reflect creation. We began in a garden designed by God without sin, hunger or suffering. We will end in a holy city (the new Jerusalem), designed by God, without sin, hunger or suffering. We will live in a perfect existence, in harmony and community with our creator. We will have resurrected bodies and the world will be restored as God intended. According to the presentation in Everyday Theology, co-author Rusty reminds us that, “Creation is at odds with humanity.”[2] Since the fall of man, humanity has not been capable of living our lives with the fullness that God intended for us. The new heaven and the new earth promise to revive that fullness. We are then able to live in full glory, completely restored physically and spiritually to reign with our creator on the earth as it was originally designed to be.
